A dedicated MC can focus on introductions, announcements, formalities and communicating with the room while the DJ stays focused on music and mixing. That separation can be especially useful for larger receptions, detailed timelines, multicultural celebrations or couples who want a more active hosting presence.
When one person can work well
A DJ who also hosts can work well when the timeline leaves enough room to manage both music and announcements. Guest count alone does not determine the staffing. The important question is whether the person you hire can perform both roles at the level your event requires.
